It’s official!
Thanks to Robert Newth - with all of his wisdom, help, and encouragement - I now have my first arrangement published for purchase on Sheet Music Plus!
Arranging is something that has interested me for some time. I took my first class on the subject in 2011. I had never tried it before, but thoroughly enjoyed the process.
In December 2019, my studio performed a holiday concert with a focus on chamber music. All performing pianists played duets. There were string duos, quartets, and a larger chamber ensemble. We also teamed up with Kristin Gavaza’s voice students to create a very memorable performance! With such a unique group of musicians, Robert and I took on the challenge of arranging the music for them rather than trying to find versions of our selections that would work for our numbers.
This summer, several students became interested in arranging, and I spent a few Skype lessons going over music notation software and composition ideas with them.
This fall, my first pod took shape in the form of a string sextet, comprised mostly of middle school students. I decided to arrange the music for them, which I am now publishing!
My first publication is Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No.5, a very popular piece originally written for piano. I find that it works perfectly for intermediate strings students. It’s lively, familiar, entertaining, and dramatic - all of the things that young musicians love!
