Scott Joplin’s “Bethena” is a nostalgic piece. Written in 1905, it did not receive acclaim until it was rediscovered in the 70s. This arrangement is for an intermediate to advanced string quintet or string chamber ensemble. Violin 1 requires shifting in multiple sections, sometimes above 3rd position. Violin 2 has minimal shifts to third position. There are prominent viola and cello parts, and the cello and double bass parts are unique.
