La Cabaña | String Quartet
La Cabaña | String Quartet
This mournful piece by Emilio Murillo has been arranged for the intermediate string quartet. It is written in the original keys of D minor and D Major, and features a lovely viola solo in the beginning with other strings accompanying. Violin I shifts briefly into 3rd position, and Violin 2 has a few soloistic moments also. The cello part requires comfort in extensions but can otherwise be played entirely in 1st position. Not much is known about the composer, Emilio Murillo (1880 - 1942). He was born in Colombia and has several surviving choral works that feature folk tunes. With its 2 contrasting sections and typical Latin vibe, this is an excellent choice for expanding your repertoire.
